Two-Minute No-Sew Burlap Embellished Pillows for Fall
I can’t wait to share with you this amazing easy and fast way to add a little fall feel to your living room décor: all you need is a little burlap, a pillow, and a glue gun!
I found these orange pillows on clearance at Real Canadian Superstore for $4.98 each! I usually make my own pillows using a simple envelope style like this and this… but I couldn’t pass this deal up! I couldn’t buy the fabric and form for even close to that price…
I picked up the roll of printed burlap at Michaels (similar items here). The roll had enough burlap to wrap around both pillows plus a little extra left over for some other fall projects.
Since I like to change my décor up a lot I have some serious commitment issues. I didn’t want to sew or glue the burlap on in a permanent way – I wanted to be able to remove it down the road when if I change my mind. But I still wanted to attach it securely so I decided to use a little bit of hot glue.
I simply squeezed a bead of glue along the bottom seam of the pillow at the same width as the burlap and then pressed it down until set.
Then I wrapped the burlap all the way around the pillow and back to the bottom seam again.
To create a neat edge I folded over and glued the bottom edge of the burlap (like a hem)….
And then glued the “hemmed” edge to join with the other edge of the burlap… I did clean up that rough end with a little extra hot glue:)
The burlap is nice and snug and stays in place perfectly on the pillow – even without having attached it all the way around.
I love the fall feel that they bring to our living room… nothing quite says fall like burlap and orange.
More pillow changes are on their way soon… as well as a whole lot more in the way of fall décor!
These literally took me about two minutes per pillow… and I am thrilled with how they turned out!
Want to try it?

Yay Ginger!! Thanks, soooo excited!!
You know how much I love quick projects! LOVE how it turned out!
Yay! Thank you Christine!!
I love the simple addition!
Thanks Kayla- fast, easy and effective. Plus, changeable. That is key:)
How fun! What a simple and fabulous idea Krista!
Thanks Bonnie! Next to try some “real” sewn burlap pillows!! Hope my machine is up to the task:)
Krista, I absolutely love your no sew idea for dressing up pillows! I can’t wait to see your other ideas for fall.
Thanks Kristine- seems like the fall ideas are really flowing these days. They are everywhere and I am feeling constantly inspired! Now just to find some more time in my day….
Love this for a quick change, Krista! It really dresses up a plain pillow 🙂
Thanks Christy! I figured the pillow was a good price, even if I just used it as a form and recovered it – but I like the little burlap addition for fall:)
What a great difference just some patterned burlap ribbon makes to your pillow. Love it and great change up. Glad you shared this idea.
Gotta be lovin’ the burlap ribbons at Hobby Lobby, so many patterns, widths, selections. About every other week they have ribbon 1/2 off. That goes for ribbon in the wedding/flower section of store besides in fabric dept. I have found many of ribbons in flower/wedding dept. are more expensive so the 1/2 off really helps when the burlap ribbons are $9.99, ouch.
I have such a hard time deciding which one I’ll buy when I can only buy one on sale. Have to make my craft cash go in lots of directions. Decisions, decisions. Little by little I’ve been trying to add to my collections of burlap ribbons. Are there any other? I need to work on getting some grosgrain varieties. Too bad I’m not writing for HL huh? Happy weekend
Ooooh wish we had a HL around – I got mine at Michaels. Luckily it was on sale for 30-40% off so that helped!! I love collecting ribbon too!! You just never know when you might be able to use it!
What. a simple and easy way to welcome a new season.
Thank you Joselyn! So thrilled you came to visit and comment!
That’s inspired. I love that you can change it up easily on a whim. I think I’ll have to keep my eyes open for some inexpensive cushions and give it a go.
Sheree
polka dotted burlap is so hot! love it! great idea, thans for the inspiration!
I’d also like to add, last year I wrapped ribbon around our pillows and tied them in bows to make them look like presents, i think this idea could be adapted with the burlap idea for the holidays!
That is SUCH a cute idea!! thanks for sharing it!!
Cute and easy pillow! I love it!

Thank you T’onna!
Krista! You are a genius! I have three plain gray pillows in my bedroom that this would be perfect for! I have to find some good coordinating ribbon now! Thank you!
Hi Jenna! Hmmmm…. can’t wait to see what you choose!!
I love the simplicity here! What a fun no sew project. Thank you!
No problem! So thrilled you like it!!
love love love these. I love everything burlap, this is awesome! 🙂
I love burlap too… especially for fall. Thanks for your visit and comments Katelyn!
You know I love burlap very much too! 🙂 & it looks great for Fall decor! 🙂 pretty project Krista 😉
Thanks so much Ingrid!!
Krista, really good idea – they’re like a removable “band” aren’t they? My mum passed on her cushion obsession to me!!! I love changing cushions around to create a new look and recovering them etc etc. I have discovered that feathered “inners” are great for doing that “chop” bit on the top to make them sit nicely – I bought a couple at Ikea recently – love them!
Not quite Petra because I did actually attach the burlap ribbon with the hot glue directly to the pillow… but I think I could fairly easily cut it off without losing much burlap and without wrecking the pillow. Hopefully:) I LOVE feather inners – and IKEA is the BEST source for them -so inexpensive and super cushy!!
These are awesome Krista! I love that you did a no-sew. I am not so handy on the sewing machine. I am trying but would prefer the old glue 🙂
I love taking something store bought on clearance and making it a little more custom and unique – doesn’t always require sewing. Though once you get the hang of it, being able to sew is super fabulous!! You should give ‘er a good go Mandy!! I bet you could create awesome projects!
Love those dots! Gotta love a simple gluegun project, too!
I agree Bronwyn. What would we ever do without our glue guns. And electricity. And a whole bunch of other stuff… but especially our glue guns;)
Cute! What a deal on the pillows. I always look for clearance ones! It would have to be a pretty amazing pillow for me to pay full price since they are so easy to make!
I love the polka dots on the burlap =)
I. LOVE. CLEARANCE. So much so that it has become hard for me to buy anything at full price. Oh, you just said that. LOL!! Great minds think alike:)
Um, how cute is this?! And so simple too!! Love this update, Krista!
~Abby =)
Thanks Abby! And the best part is – when I don’t love it anymore it is fairly easy to remove!!
Krista, you always make the best pillows……love the polka dots
Thanks Christine! I love the polka dots too – kind of fun and fresh while still being burlap and black (if that combo is possible!!)
Super-cute change-up! I’m loving all the printed burlap I’m seeing 🙂
I agree Cindy – the printed burlap is fabulous. Would love to try stenciling my own soon too…
I saw those pillows too at the Superstore but ours only had the brown pillows left – too bad, the orange ones look great! I like your Fall embellishment, that turned out super cute!!
Thanks Heather!! Sometimes stuff like that is such luck – but don’t they have the best clearance at Superstore sometimes? I love to try and get there when I get to Nanaimo!
