Seasonal Simplicity Fall Living Room Tour

I am sharing my fall living room styling for the seasonal simplicity tour.

Hello, friends! It’s a big day around here. Or should I say, a big week? It’s fall home tour time!

I had hoped to share three different tours with you this week, but once my husband had his accident I realized that time just wasn’t going to allow for that, so I had to pare down a little.

I’m sharing our cozy fall living room tour with you today and then the dining room and kitchen on Wednesday. I have made a few tweaks and changes in our primary bedroom and outdoors that I want to share as well, but that will have to wait! Things are hectic around here right now; maybe you read about it on Friday’s Faves last week?

Today I’m super excited to be co-hosting the Seasonal Simplicity tour with my friend April from House by Hoff.  I love the idea of “seasonal simplicity”. I can tend to get a bit over-the-top in some {okay, almost ALL} things… so it’s nice to focus on keeping things a little more simple on the seasonal decor front.

This year, I didn’t even sew new living room throw pillows! And I definitely kept with my favourite colour scheme of soft blues and greens. I brought in a couple of darker green velvet pillows ( a steal of a deal from Ikea); and added a few seasonal touches to the mantel. But other than that; I simply added some fresh hydrangeas (from our garden), along with some bright yellow sunflowers and mini pumpkins and gourds from our local farm market.

Definitely easy and basic; but you tell me if it doesn’t feel completely “fall” to you anyhow!

There is an octagon coffee table with sunflowers on it.

The new fireplace that we installed last November is definitely the focal point of our living room (unless you count the TV mounted above it!)… and I can’t wait to get it going again once the weather gets colder. It adds such warmth to our living room in the evenings.

I shared a detailed tour of our fall mantel here.

Bright sunflowers in a vase that is blue on the coffee table.

The new chairs flanking the fireplace are a big change in the room since our last tour!

What do you think of them?

A small blue foot stool is at the foot of a white armchair.

A striped blue and white pillow, small foot stool beside a fireplace.

I made this little ottoman (with some help from my Dad), several months ago when we were working on our master bedroom makeover, but it seems to have migrated out to the living room. And right now it’s coming in super handy, as it’s the perfect spot for my husband to perch his casted leg on. I still intend to share the DIY on it, as soon as I can! The fabric I used on it is from Tonic Living.

I picked up the big aqua and cream striped throw pillows on clearance at Target during a trip to the US in the summer, and I love how squishy and comfy they are. The striped pillow, and foot stool with a small area rug.

There is a stand up lamp behind the white armchair.

Maybe you spotted this rug during our summer tour?

Well, it’s definitely a purchase that I am over-the-top still thrilled with! The pretty colours and the freshness and it’s so soft to walk on (compared to our old jute rug). Plus, it was an insanely amazing price, so I don’t mind that it’s not as thick as some rugs.

There are mini pumpkins scattered around the room.

A throw blanket is on the arm of the white chair.

Can you tell the new chairs are sort of a fave??

I LOVE them so much! So comfortable! They are big, though. Read my whole & honest review of them here.

Beside the sunflowers there is a wooden candle holder.

Stalks of wheat is in a blue vase on a side table.

There are hydrangeas in a clear green vase beside the wheat stalks.

A mini pumpkin is on the side table.

My favourite chair for TV watching is still my tufted upholstered chair under the window…

It’s much comfier then it looks like it would be, and is a great size for cuddling into with a cozy blanket on the cool fall evenings…

A light and dark blue vase holds the sunflowers on the coffee table.

A cotton blue and white throw blanket is on an armchair.

This throw blanket is from the Sarah Richardson design collection (I love everything Sarah does…), and the pillow is from Wayfair. I’ve always struggled to find the right colour pillow for these chairs, and I think I’ve finally got it!

I picked up this rectangular straw basket at HomeSense a few weeks ago.

Because I was quite short on baskets (insert eye rolls). Ok, so I may have a LOT of baskets, but this one is perfect for snuggling right next to a chair and filling with extra cozy throws and pillows. Crucial items to have on hand for fall…

Our big tufted upholstered sofa is still where the boys spend the majority of their time.

And my husband likes to spread out and take it over completely in the evenings while we watch Netflix.

As pretty and put together as this sofa is, it is super comfortable. And I’m impressed with how well it’s held up given the incredible amount of love and attention and time that we put into it:)

The dark green velvet pillow covers are from Ikea, and the beautiful blue and green patterned pillows are from Tonic Living. The bottom art prints are from Minted, and the top leaf prints are just something I made up on the computer and printed out. The vase and lantern are both from HomeSense, as is the big wooden sunburst mirror (can you believe I found it for only $50!?!).

Green, blue and white throw pillow on the couch.

Graphic green and blue watercolour is above the couch.

A round wooden mirror above the couch on the wall.

And that old coffee table…

Well, it certainly isn’t perfect.

It was a $40 Craigslist find that I painted.

But I still love it… and the shape?!? Well, I’m a huge fan of round or octagonal coffee tables over rectangular ones. I don’t see myself parting with it anytime soon. As the paint gets worn and chipped with age {ahem… boys}, I think it just adds to the charm. Don’t you?

The legs of the blue coffee table.

Pumpkins and gourds on the coffee table.

See?!

All I really needed to do was add in some sunflowers and pumpkins. Instant fall! I’m working on that whole keep it simple thing…

Did you see some pieces that you love?

Want to know where I got them or where you can find similar ones?
