Our Summer Kitchen & Dining Room
Today I’m sharing our summer kitchen and summer dining room tour
with simple seasonal touches as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Home Tour Series.
Do you remember, as a kid, your Mom attending a “colours” party? Where all the neighbourhood women would get together and a “colours” expert would tell them what “season” they were? It was supposed to help you determine what colours and tones were best suited to your complexion, to help guide your choices in clothing and makeup. The tones and colours suggested by your “season” were meant to be those that would help your own natural beauty shine through the best.
Well, I feel like if we had our home’s “season” tested, it would definitely come out a “summer”.
Summer is its season.
The light, fresh, airy and energy-saturated tones of summer suit our home best; as the sun pours in through our skylights and the lake outside glistens with the promise of perfect, cool, refreshment.
Ah… summer.
Lemonade and watermelon.
Iced tea and strawberries.
Fresh flowers and herbs from the garden.
Summer in the kitchen…
Today I’m hosting the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Series! In fact, this series is running all week long with some of my talented fellow bloggers sharing part of their summer homes for your enjoyment and inspiration! If you’ve popped over from one of the other beautiful homes on this hop, then welcome!
My name is Krista, and I’ve been blogging here for about six years. You can read more about me and the blog right here. I hope you enjoy today’s tour…
*I shared a collection of my sources, or similar finds, at the bottom of this tour…
We remodelled our kitchen a couple of years ago, and it’s still one of my favourite spaces in our entire home. The view of the lake while we are working in here is our favourite, as is the light that streams in through our wall of windows.
My kitchen runner is probably my most emailed/commented/asked about piece in our kitchen. You can order your own right here. (PS – we have this same exact rug in the largest size in our bedroom, and a smaller size in our walk-in closet).
Fresh blooms in the summer… the best, right?! My parents have a beautiful garden and I love it when my Mom shares her blooms with me…
It’s not a real lemon tree… but did I have you wondering? So many people have asked! It’s the cutest little guy and I picked it up at Real Canadian Superstore last year.
Speaking of lemons… nothing like lemonade in the summer! I whipped up a batch of the most delicious knock-off Italian Herb Lemonade and shared the recipe last week. The flavour is unbelievable, and it makes perfect summer cocktail (though my kids love it, too!) You can find out how right here.
A couple of years after we finished the kitchen renovation, we added another new touch with this beautiful etagere shelf. I still love it, and can change it up a little through the seasons with different displays. I have kept it pretty clean and simple for summer… Chunky baskets on the bottom three shelves add storage for linens and extras, but I also love the colour and texture of them. I found some similar ones here.
The art wall in the dining room is a favourite… I shared the details about it in this post. The pew and dining table are also pieces I’d have a hard time parting with; my Dad built the table for us a few years ago using some legs I ordered from Osborne Wood products.
These end chairs were a recent addition just before Christmas and I’m so glad I ordered them. The lower profile is absolutely perfect so as to not obstruct the lake view out the dining room doors, and they are so comfy! You can find them here (and they’re a great deal!)
I also shared our beachy blue and white summer living room tour here…
Did you see something you love?
I’ve hunted down my sources or similar ones and gathered them together for you…
And… next up on today’s hop is my friend Rachel from Maison de Pax, who is sharing her gorgeous French Country dining room! I know you’ll love it!
In fact, all week long we’ve got beautiful summer inspiration happening…
The Seasonal Simplicity Home Tour series is back; and this time we’re all about simple summer decor touches! All week long, my talented blogging friends and I are sharing part of our homes. I can’t wait to take in all the gorgeous inspiration…

I enjoyed reading about the paint colors you used in your lovely home. Benjamin Moore Sea Foam and Whispering Spring are two of the colors I’ve been considering and was happy to see that you’ve used both. Can you tell me how they compare to each other. Does one show more blue, green or aqua than the other? Which one has a higher LRV? Does one go more gray in lower lighting conditions? I’d appreciate any input you could give me. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.
Hey Krista. Sorry I didn’t make my question clear. I love the light in your kitchen and wonder where you got it. Thanks!
robyn
Not sure how your blog stopped popping up on my list, but so glad it started again. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your kitchen, how fabulous is that and a view of the lake would be my dream. I am really enjoying this series you are doing, so fun to take a peek at all the fun summer decor. I love your living room too, you manage to do teal perfectly, it always looks so summery.
Aw, thank you Marty! So kind of you to pop by! Email me if you are interested in being part of future series!
Hi Krista! Love your kitchen. Where did you get your hanging light fixture?
Thanks for the tour!
Hi Robyn,
Thank you! Do you mean the chandelier in the dining room? Or the pendant lights in the kitchen? I can send you links to either of them!
Krista, I hope you know that this is my dream kitchen!! I’m seriously swooned every time you share it! Beautiful, refreshing, and ready for summer! Thank you so much for being such a wonderful host!! xoxo -Norma
Aw, thank you Norma! I love the light we get… and it certainly will get a lot of use very soon once everyone is out of school for the summer!
Love the aqua! I also like the wooden cutting boards and pedestal wood slice piece. The colors are uplifting and light. I’m with you – cheerful colors of spring or summer!
Thank you Barb! I love the light beachy colours in the summer, as well – so relaxed and casual!
Krista, your house is soo bright and happy -it’s definitely a “summer”!! (btw, I do remember my mom attending one of those parties, haha!)
I absolutely LOVE your cute “groceries” sign and your runner is so gorgeous in your kitchen (no wonder it’s your most asked about item!)
Thank you again for having me as part of the Seasonal Simplicity tour! It’s been a pleasure to hop with such a talented group:)
Sheila
xo
Thank you Sheila! The runner is a favourite of mine – I love how it doesn’t show anything;) So glad you could join in on this tour series!!
Just gorgeous Krista! The fresh cut flowers are beautiful! And I really was wondering about your cute little lemon tree! Everything is so fresh, bright and perfectly summer! Thank you for hosting!
Thanks Laura! I’ve had a few people ask about the lemon tree, thinking it was real. I’ve never seen one in real life, so I have no idea if you can even get one that small? Thinking they grow better in the south then in our climate, so I’ll just fake it! Glad you could be part of this series, friend!
I totally remember those seasons makeovers! I think I was fall, haha. I think my house is too actually! I love your home, Krista. It’s summer perfection!
Hugs, Jamie
Lol- that’s so funny, Jamie. I don’t think I ever had mine tested, but I’d probably be a “fall”… wishing to be a summer!
Krista, all those cheerful blues in your kitchen make me so happy. LOVED visiting your summer home tour. xx
Thank you Danielle! Glad you could be part of this series- so much beautiful inspiration!!
Krista, your home is always so cheerful. I can’t imagine ever being in a bad mood if I lived there. Love your colors and especially those prints in your dining room. Thanks for hosting a lovely tour!!
Thank you Jen! I love the prints too… hard to believe they were all thrift store finds! I lucked out:) So glad you could join me for this series!
Your kitchen is always so bright and fun – I love it!! And I’m sure that gorgeous view doesn’t hurt either. Enjoy your beautiful home {and lake!!} this summer. xo
Thanks Jenn! I am so excited that the sun has returned so that we can actually enjoy the lake! June-uary was quite the shock after a beautiful May!!
I always love your home Krista, and especially your kitchen. You have such a great gift for decorating in a fun, colorful way while still maintaining a clean, fresh look. Thank you so much for hosting this home tour series – I’m so excited to see everyone’s homes!
Thank you Jenna! I loved your tour as well – glad you could join in for this series!!
I’d be so grateful for guidance on the type of flooring you chose for your kitchen area — it looks lovely and practical!
Hi Yvonne! It is a large 12×24 grey tile with a light variation in colour within (greys and some beige/brown towns but all quite neutral and not much contrast). I have seen similar tile at both tile stores and big box stores like Home Depot. It is practical, for sure!
Where did you buy your wood dining chairs? You have an awesome style !! Thank you
Thank you so much Stephanie! I ordered them from Urban Barn, but they no longer carry them. I have seen them online as well, and shared a post with some here:
Hope that helps!
Just lovely, as always! And you totally had me tricked with that lemon tree. Love.
Right?! I’ve had a few people question it! It’s such a fun little summery addition. Glad you could be part of this series, Kim. Happy summer!
Did I see anything I loved? Oh boy did I ever, so many incredible & awesome goodies. You have a wonderful, natural talent for decorating Krista, have always admired and been inspired by your lovely home. Have to agree your home is Summer. Love your kitchen, colors are my favorites and that sink, oh my..
Sure do remember those parties where somebody told us our season, lol. They were always very incorrect about mine but I managed to figure it out by looking in mirror.
Enjoy your Summer.
Hello JaneEllen! Thank you so much for your sweet, kind comments! They always make my day! Life has been very busy the last few weeks, but I’m glad that school is wrapping up next week and we can enjoy some more time at home! Wishing you a lovely summer, as well!!
So nice
Thanks Jo-Anne! I’m thinking it’s winter in your neck of the woods!
Your home is so summery, Krista! And I’m so curious to know what my season would be now! Lemonade and watermelon is quintessential summer! Thanks for hosting this fun tour!
I’m curious, too, Jen. I think I’d be a fall… but always dreaming of being a summer 😉 Wishing you a good one!
I love your summer kitchen! So beautiful! Thank you so much for hosting this lovely tour. So honored to join in the fun.
Laura

A “summer” house for sure! I love your beautiful kitchen, Krista! And you are the best at adding in fun pops of color! Thank you so much for hosting our tour this week!
~Abby =)
Thank you Abby! I’d say your pretty darn amazing with the pops of colour, yourself! So glad you could be part of the tour series!
Wonderful, but where do I go if the colour person said Winter were my colours? I love your beach themes but I need between beach and fall.
Hi Maureen! I keep the same kind of colours in fall as well but add a few warmer touches – check out last year’s fall tour here: and here:
