This is week one of the challenge, and my goals for this first week of the challenge were to:
- Go through, purge and then organize your paperwork
- Develop a system for your incoming and outgoing paperwork and create a space for it; such as a command center
Today I’m sharing my progress this week in tackling a much needed purge and re-organization of our paper clutter and command center.
And let me tell ya… after the busy past few months, it more then needed it!
Proof that even a good organizing system will fail if the people operating the system don’t follow through.
So the most important part of my goal is about maintaining it; now that it’s back in good working order!
Here is how our command centre was looking before I started this re-organization process:
It had become a drop zone. There was unopened mail, piles of paper clutter to deal with, things to be filed, and the homework bin was overflowing with the kid’s work and papers.
So I started by taking everything out; and I mean everything. I went through it all and recycled or threw out anything that we no longer needed. I then made a pile for “ACT” (action items) and another pile for “FILE”.
I even went through the office supplies and pens and got rid of old, worn out, or unneeded items.
Once everything unnecessary had been purged it was time to put it all back together…
Even the kid’s bin is back to manageable!

I feel so much better having this first job dealt with! I’m totally motivated now to keep going and take on the next challenge… the kitchen!!
