Spring Home Tour

My spring home tour is filled with fresh greenery and pops of colour!

Woot woot!

It is Spring Home Tour day!

And, guys. I am. SO. Excited.

You know how it feels when a decor plan finally comes together?

When that last little piece fits into the puzzle?

Well, I feel like that has finally happened with our living/dining room.

We’ve been working away, making changes, over the past several months (or even years). Rugs. Paint. Board and batten. And I finally feel like it has all been pulled together with my new pillows and curtains.

I’m positively giddy and can’t wait to share it with you!

Spring Home Tour at thehappyhousie.com poster.

Welcome! Come on in to our home…

The front door is ajar with a spring wreath on the door.

My five minute dollar store spring wreath graces our front door. The door colour is Aegean Teal by Benjamin Moore. Move down one space on the paint chip and that is the colour of our hallway (Colorado Gray). Move two more colours down the chip and you find our Living/Dining/Kitchen colour (Whispering Spring). Can you tell I like blue?

There is a wooden side table in the hallway with an aqua blue runner on it.

We have made a few changes in our Entry Hall these past few months. I switched out the table with a sofa table that we were gifted by our in-laws. I am still on the fence about painting it, and haven’t had time to tackle that DIY project yet. I also brought our Mohawk rug into the entry – I like how the grey blends nicely with our grey tile.

Binoculars, a round mirror and a white vase is on the table.

I didn’t want to go over-the-top with Easter décor this year. We just got back from a Spring Break holiday and Easter is just around the corner, so I didn’t want to have to take it all down again in a couple of weeks. I felt like going with a more classic and streamlined spring look- but a few fun Easter eggs and a bunny here and there are a little nod to the holiday.

There is a little white ceramic bunny on the table.

The mint chalk painted chair that was featured in Women’s Day always finds a home in the entry hall… I wish I could say that I DIY-ed that driftwood wreath but truth-be-told I bought it at a local farm market.

A small chair is in the hallway as well.

A wooden driftwood wreath.

An aqua blue bag is hanging up.

Just off the entry hall is our Command Central {Command Center in a closet}. It is such a handy landing zone and helps me keep all the life/paper  clutter and tech devices out of our kitchen! I love it…

There is a small desk area in aqua blue.

A desk area with a small stool.

From our entry hall come on into our Living Room….

I feel like my new drapery from Kirklands (Aqua Gatehill pattern) has completely transformed and finished off this space. I am positively ecstatic about the curtains. It’s been a long time coming.

A look down the hallway to the living room.

There are spring throw pillows on the neutral couch in the living room.

As I mentioned before, we repainted our entire living room, dining room, and kitchen with Benjamin Moore Whispering Spring. It used to be more of a greige/green tone called Grant Beige and it just wasn’t speaking my language, if you know what I mean. Beautiful colour, but not for me. I can’t get over the fresh beachy feel of the new colour. The coffee table is painted in the same Aegean Teal as the front door.

Would you believe the whole scheme was inspired by that teal broken oar that you see hanging on our gallery wall?

A blue octagon table has a spring vignette on it.

I found the big basket at Home Sense and loved it so much I had to by a second one for the lower shelf on our other coffee table. I love containing all the books and magazines in a somewhat tidy fashion. This gives me a spot to throw them when I tidy up each night.

There is an A on the wall in the living room.

A spring painting is on the wall above the couch.

There is a white lamp on a side table by the couch

As always, the room is pulled together with by fabric. I ordered some new prints from Tonic Living and I love the new pillows so much that I think I actually might keep them for both the spring AND summer. Really.

The anchor fabric is Gazebo, Cloud and I have been eyeing it up for a few seasons now… I finally took the plunge and I am so glad I did. It is perfect. The stripe is called Cocoa Beach, Pool and I think it just might be about my favourite fabric ever. It is so fresh and crisp feeling. I have never done a stripe in the living room and didn’t realize what I was missing! Seriously! The background floral is gorgeous too – it is called Imperial Bloom, Apple Green.

Throw pillows in floral and blue striped patterns.

Nothing says spring like fresh pink tulips…

There is a clear vase filled with pink flowers.

And DIY yarn wrapped easter eggs:)

A glass cloche with a plant under it on the coffee table.

A large white lamp is on the side table.

Aren’t those curtains amazing? I still get goosebumps when I get up in the morning and see them again, for the first time. Such a geek. I know. There is a small area rug in the living room.

A white couch with a blue striped pillow is on it.

Up close shot of purple and pink flowers.

A wooden Lakeshore Cottages sign in the living room.

Decor in the living room.

Now if you aren’t completely worn out from looking at pictures… let’s head into the dining room. I even have a sneak peak at the kitchen in store for you today!

There are flowers on the table in the dining room.

There have been a few changes in the dining room and I feel like, with the new drapes, it is finally coming together. I would still like to lighten up the table base and chairs…but I haven’t decided whether we should sell our dining set or paint it. I bought the two end chairs just before Christmas at Home Sense and I like having the contrast of the fabric chairs with the wooden ones. I plan to Scotchguard them but keep forgetting to do so – I better get on that before my boys wipe spaghetti sauce on one.

Spring details in the dining room.

A white sideboard is beside the kitchen.

Our faux mantel cabinet  is decorated for spring in a simple and classic way… nothing too over-the-top Eastery this year. We have a lot of DIY projects coming up (with the kitchen renovation) so I wanted a mantel that could last me a few months this time around. My Balsam Hill boxwood wreath is the central feature- I love how it works with every season.

There is a green wreath on a chalkboard on the sideboard.

Pops of green glass and aqua star.

Can you believe my husband found that glass float for me one day when he was out walking in the woods? Isn’t it a beauty? I can’t get over the colour…

A blue tin bucket is filled with white tulips.

A view from the dining room to the lake.

Part of the kitchen renovation was having some new doors installed – this room used to have a 6 foot wide window but it was replaced with a 9 foot wide glass door unit. So much more light and a much better view of the lake! I love it!!

Pink flowers in green glass on the dining room table.

I had fun setting up our dining table with my green mason jars (I found these at my local Home Hardware store!). I love them simply dressed with tulips and green mums… such an easy and fresh combo. My wicker chargers are from IKEA, and if you have been following along for awhile you may remember these gorgeous turquoise Pfaltzgraff plates from a tablescape and giveaway I shared last summer. I found the little green glasses on clearance at my local Urban Barn store.

Beautiful spring flowers on the table.

A wooden table set for spring.

Light blue plates and pink and yellow flowers on the table.

Green mason jars filled with flowers.

You can see that we installed some DIY board and batten in the dining room. I love the crisp look of it with the pew backing against it. I ran a series of my vintage oil paintings above the paneling- these were all collected from garage sales and didn’t cost more then a few dollars apiece. I unified them all by painting out the frames in white. I would like to find a more beachy one for the center, so I will be on the lookout this garage sale season.

A wooden bench with throw pillows in the dining room.

More of my pillows using my fabric from Tonic Living grace the pew.

There are black chairs around the table.

Oh, tulips… ahhh….

There are aqua blue plates on the table.

Oh!!

Here we go!!

This is “where we are at” with the kitchen.

It is totally functional – but missing a few key things (open shelves, hood fan, backsplash tile, toe kicks, a paneled ceiling? etc. etc.). I see a lot of work in our near future.

A white kitchen.

You may have read all about our new stainless farmhouse sink and faucet? We ordered them both from build.com, as well as the hardware.

A large stainless steel sink in the kitchen.

So you can see that the range wall is looking a little unfinished….

I shared our conundrum about the wood hood fan that we are planning to DIY a few days ago. I’d love to hear what style you like best!

You may have spotted the stunning Minka Lavery sconces that will be going up above the open shelving when I shared them on Instagram awhile ago?

There is a large stove in the kitchen.

Well, at least after a hard day of DIY, we can relax and rest in our Master bedroom – it is “almost” finished!

A large bed is in the master bedroom with aqua and orange pillows.

We added floor to ceiling board and batten, reupholstered our headboard, painted out our nightstands, white dresser, and Ikea Tarva dresser, as well as got a beautiful new rug from Rugs USA and stunning bedding from Crane and Canopy. So it is “ALMOST” done… I just need to sew some blackout drapery (now that the sun is up earlier and earlier) as well as update my old mirror. I can’t wait to finish up and share those projects with you next month!

Aqua bedding.

The gold quatrefoil pillow is from Home Sense and I made the background pillows using fabric from Online Fabric Store. When I first saw this Iman Ubud Sunstone pattern in person at the Haven Conference, I knew I had to use it somewhere. It works perfectly with the teal and coral scheme that I’ve created in this room. The throw at the bottom of the bed is from a local import market.

The master bedroom details.

A white and aqua rug in the bedroom.

Whew.

That was a workout. So many pictures to look at. I hope I didn’t overwhelm you too much. I just love spring/summer décor so much that I think I let my enthusiasm take over a little, being a housie and all.

This is awesome! Pin it to remember it!

  1. I frequently dream of the day when I have the time, energy, and well… money, to decorate my house for each season like this. I always want to buy up all the seasonal decor that starts popping up at the store each season, but I force myself to resist. But one day!

Oh and in case you didn’t already know – your home is beautiful!

  2. Very cute, happy Spring! As for the dining set, if you’re thinking of getting rid of it anyway, I always say paint it first and see if you love it, you’ve got nothing to lose!

  3. Gorgeous!! I love every Spring-y detail Krista!! Those pillows are stunning – I wish I could come over for a visit to see it all in person!! Hugs ~ Heather

    1. Thank you so much Elizabeth! I like the flow much better now then I did when the living/dining was greige- you hardly notice the transition instead of it feeling choppy. Thanks so much for your visit!

    1. Thanks Jamie – that means a lot, coming from someone with not one, but TWO stunning kitchen renovations under her belt! I can’t wait to see the back range wall come together!!

    1. Aw, thanks Cristina! I’ve been using your Hood Fan tutorial for inspiration and instructions – it is the best tutorial I have found, so thank you! We even have the same insert as you used (or at least a very similar one). Your kitchen turned out so beautifully, so I hope ours can be half as put together when we are finished!!

    1. Thank you Kelsey- that is one of my favourite pieces ever, too. I don’t think I can ever part with it now… it’s coming to the old-age home with me one day!

  4. Beautiful home!!I love the colors as they are so calming and cool {which you wouldn’t normally here in Spring}. I also really like the gray tile in the kitchen as it is similar to what I had in my home in Switzerland. Thank you for sharing this your great home!
I invite you to come share this and link up with me now {if you haven’t already} at http://www.wrightsimply.com/2015/03/wordless-wednesday-link-up.html
Have a wonderful weekend! xx Ashleigh @SimplyWright

    1. Thanks Ashleigh! I love the watery blues and greens all year because of being located on the lake – they seem so fitting for waterfront. So thrilled you came by!

  5. Oh. My. Gah. The whole thing is just stunning, Krista!!! The green mason jars and the centerpiece and the owl side table and that wooden side table next to the white chair. LOVE it all!!! SO colorful and inviting! 🙂 xx

    1. Bwahaha, thanks Charlotte!! I just found the green mason jars and am so glad I did… they are my new favourite thing. That wooden side table used to be used to make cheese at a local family dairy – got it at a garage sale. I love pieces that have an interesting story to them. Thanks for your super sweet comments!

    1. Thank you Christine!! Spring and summer are my favourite decorating seasons- I love things feeling bright and airy. Thanks for coming by!!

    1. Aw, Kendra, you totally made my day! I always know my tours a little (ok, a lot) picture-heavy, so I appreciate you saying you enjoyed them all despite their ridiculous number:) lol. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

    1. Thanks Jen! I am a colour fan:) Thank you so much for all of your amazing organizing and including me on this tour. I am seriously in love with my new drapery from Kirklands!!

    1. Thanks Cassie! I’m super excited because my girlfriend just gave me a new (vintage) oil painting today that will work even better with this grouping- so it is changing already (lol).

    1. Aw, thanks Marie! Sometimes the photography is such a struggle- I signed up to take that Shoot Fly course but still haven’t found the time to tackle it!

    1. Thanks Jenna! I am a colour lover… went more neutral this winter and I just wasn’t feelin’ it – I admire it so much in other people’s spaces but love the energy injection that colour gives me in my own space. And with the view, I pretty much don’t need to decorate, right? But it doesn’t stop me:)

  6. Love EVERYTHING!! I am so inspired by the way you carried out your colors all through the house. Please, please don’t paint the foyer table. It’s perfect as it is.

    1. Hi Sheran! I know – I actually really like the wood too, but unfortunately the top is really badly damaged (which is why I keep a table runner on it). I guess I could always sand it down and refinish the wood top, though!

  7. Absolutely stunning!!!!! The fresh color is so inviting 🙂
What is your color of white for your trim and board and batten???
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the layout of your home.. (A pencil sketch of the layout would be awesome!!!)
    Cant wait to see more!!!!

    1. Hi Dawn! The colour of all our trim work is Cloud White by Benjamin Moore (I should add that in the post – thanks for reminding me!). I should really try to get a layout drawn up because a few people have asked me for it. I will try to do that!

      1. I look forward to your posts and pictures……for me, you can never have enough pictures….thanks for sharing

  8. I love this room, Krista. It is so pretty and serene with just the right amount of colors.Makes me think of the beach.

    1. Thanks Diana! I am loving all the watery blue/green colours right now and find them super subtle and serene as well, without being too neutral. A place that reminds you of the beach can never be a bad thing, right??

  9. OH EM GEE!! I love every square inch of your house!! So pretty, so colorful, so put together, love the colors. Just love it!!

    1. Aw, thank you Cristiana!! I love the way all the colours are working together this season as well:)

  10. I absolutely love your house! We painted our front door Agean Teal as well and used Whispering Spring in our powder room! They are such great colors. I love all of the windows in your kitchen!!! I am pretty sure I would just stand and stare out of them all day 🙂

    1. Aren’t they beautiful colours Heidi? So fresh and airy – not quite turquoise/teal but not quite blue either. The perfect in between! The windows are a huge highlight – I love that it is light out now later in the evening so I can look at the view while I make dinner. Such a treat!

    1. Hi Tara! I have long loved blue and it seems to be slowly taking over the whole house…but I agree- it feels cheery. Thanks so much!

    1. Aw, thanks April – it feels like it is finally coming together and I like it so much more!! The drapes really did it for me:)
