“Seasonal Simplicity” Summer Kitchen Tour
Good morning, friends! I’m super excited to be here today sharing the second part of my summer home tour. Yesterday I shared our summer front porch and a sneak peak at our summer foyer. Today I’m inviting you inside and we’re going to move through the foyer and right on into my favourite room, the kitchen!
This week I’m thrilled to be cohosting a Seasonal Simplicity summer home tour along with April from House by Hoff! We have joined up with 24 bloggers to share some summer decor inspiration with you all, and you can find the links to the rest of this week’s tours at the bottom of the post.
For this summer tour, I decided to focus in on our kitchen because it has the best views of my favourite summer spot: the lake we live on. And this summer I’m hope to spend as little time as possible in the kitchen and as much time as possible out on the lake.
Because those two months are fleeting, amIright?!
So come on in…
You can see more of our front porch here. I’ve made some changes this summer and simplified it a lot; and I’m loving it so much more. Let’s head through the foyer…
And straight into the kitchen!
We can grab some drinks and snacks on our way out to the dock…
A few years ago we made some structural changes to our kitchen by taking out a sliding glass door, adding new windows across the whole front, and extending the (new) cabinetry along the whole wall facing out to the lake. If any renovation has made a difference in our house, it has to be this one. I’m so glad we lived through the months of dust, endured endless hiccups and mistakes, and coped with several months of cooking out in the garage. You can read all about the before and after of our kitchen here.
This little lemon tree isn’t real {shhhh}, but I love the fun pop of colour it adds to our summery kitchen.
I’m in love with the scent of this Sapodilla “Lavender and Lime” hand soap, dish soap, and countertop cleaner so much that I find myself thinking about it. #weirdbuttrue
Lemonade is one of my favourite summer drinks, and I shared my favourite recipe for fresh squeezed raspberry mint lemonade last summer.
I love this sweet little lemonade jar and matching glasses; I picked them up last summer when we were visiting friends in Switzerland at a home decor shop in Zurich. Crazy, right? I go to Europe and that’s what I bring home?!
That… and the sign over the stove! It wouldn’t fit in my luggage so I had to march through the airports with it under my arm. Metal sign carryon baggage. You know you’re crazy when…
A fairly recent upgrade to our kitchen is our new etagere style shelf from Wayfair to display my favourite dishes and bowls. It’s such great storage and the perfect way to include all those pretty accessories in our kitchen decor while keeping things more casual then with a traditional china cabinet.
Fresh fruit is one of the highlights of our summer around here… my boys gobble it up like there’s no better food in the world. And, maybe, there isn’t??
This peninsula is where we spend a good portion of our family time. We regularly eat our meals here; do homework or work on projects here; and just gather around while one of us (usually me:) is working away in the kitchen. To upgrade a builder basic cabinet, we simply added planking and corbels and painted it out in Benjamin Moore’s Wedgwood Gray. You can read the DIY tutorial here.
We also built that hood fan with the help of my Dad, and dressed it up with the same corbels and shade of blue. You can read that DIY tutorial here.
See something you like?
