As I shared with you last week, we have started working towards transforming the exterior of our home. And if transforming is a big word for it, then at least we are tweaking and freshening up the exterior. Landscaping, fencing, decking, and siding. We are also hoping to add a new front and garage door. Big project. LOTS of decisions to be made… like what colour and finish our house should be!?!
And I’m drawn back to one colour again and again.
It’s blue. I just can’t seem to get away from it. Even for the exterior of our house; I’m constantly drawn to blue exteriors. Coastal style exterior finishing. Even to blue accents in doors and shutters.
But even within blue there are so many variations. From light to dark; the palette extends from airy and grey blue to the darkest almost-black navy. What’s your favourite?
Do you remember when I shared the BEFORE pictures of our exterior of our house and yard?
Now to decide what to do… today I’m sharing some beautiful exteriors that are inspiring me!
Pretty much my dream, right here. I wish we had some more architectural lines to work with on our home; but this beautiful home showcases how contrasting white trim can pop beautifully against a light almost aqua-blue exterior… And that door! And garage door! I love it all. Via Home Stories A to Z
Next up, I love the crisp white trim, soft coloured metal roof, and craftsman lines of this home via Magnolia Market…
This next one is pretty much a dream; I mean, it’s literally ON a lake… but aside from hat, I love the deep blue colour and how it mixes so beautifully with cedar shingles and crisp white trim. I can’t even start with those pots full of fountain grass… Via Style at Home
Obviously totally dream worthy, once again; I feel like this home Via House Beautiful is right out of a movie set. But even though the lines are so amazing, I think a light blue shingled exterior would add character to even the most boring of home designs (like ours!).
I love shingle exteriors; and this colour is so unique. Almost minty aqua. I would definitely consider this colour; I think it would feel equally pretty and fresh in our lakeside location as it does on this city street… Found via Pinterest (but let me know if you know the original source!).
Another beautiful shingled exterior, this one in a darker shade. Such a classic look, right?! Via Houzz
Sweet little dark blue bungalow looks amazing with a red front door; and those green hydrangeas?!? The crisp white porch columns really add a nice contrast as well…Via BHG
Once again, white trim for the win. And the rounded windows in the dormers are super sweet with window boxes galore. Even the front door is rounded! Via Azek
This beautiful dark blue exterior Via JK And Sons sings against the dark wooden doors and touches of brick. I’d love to add some interest to all of our columns like they’ve done here…
Classic! And once again, the columns and trim details make a huge difference in this beautiful home found Via Home Bunch. Look at the corbels!
And now for the exact colour of blue that we are seriously considering; it is hard to find a true colour example online! It’s called Boothbay Blue by Hardie Siding and I’ve found a few houses that are supposedly this colour but they all look a bit different in the pictures.
Here is one Via…
And another one Via Lowes…
And a third example Via Houzz….
Do those all look the same colour to you?!?! Eek! It’s such a big decision!
And although I’m fairly set on blue as the colour; part of me still wavers!
I also found some Coastal Exteriors that were really inspiring; even if they aren’t ALL blue; I find I’m still drawn to blue accents in doors and shutters…
I’ve seriously considered a light grey shingle exterior as well; it feels so coastal and soft and pretty. I love this exterior with that stunning aqua-mint door! Via Addisons Wonderland
These fresh cedar shingles and that bright aqua door?!? Plus who wouldn’t want a sweet little porch like that…Via BHG
It might not be blue but it’s definitely coastal with those weather shingles… And I can’t even get over the hydrangeas Via Kelly Elko
Okay – so nothing blue here, but isn’t it stunning?!?! Via The Inspired Room
And I can’t decide if this is dark dark navy or black… but it certainly makes a statement! Via Lonny
And this one isn’t blue but it has a coastal feel with the weathered shingles and blue shutters. The English garden feel of the front yard is so pretty… and, really, I could picture a body of water behind it, couldn’t you? Such a sweet cottage Via House Beautiful
What do you think? What’s your favourite?!?
