It has been a busy and strange week around here but a good one. It’s the “family day” long weekend where we live and I’m pretty excited about having the extra day off.
We made a BIG decision about our boys’ closets a couple of weeks ago, and ordered them the PAX units from Ikea, so we are going to be busy this weekend turning their non-functional small reach-in closets into super functional and organized closets for them! I absolutely can’t wait to get that job tackled.
Of course, it’s also going to mean a fair bit of clothing organization and purging, because I left that organizing task untouched until the closet decisions had been made. If you are looking to purge and re-organize some closets and dressers in your house, I wrote a great post about it here.
In addition to working on installing the new closet systems, I’m still gradually working on adding a more spring-y feel to our living room and I hope to make some progress this weekend. This past week my friend Chelsea shared her living room (non-seasonal), and I absolutely love the fresh, beachy feel of it Via Making Home Base
I’m trying to decide if I want to stick with just blues this year, or bring back some pops of soft pink and blush, like last spring…
I love soft pink peonies in the spring, but real ones are so short lived and expensive (except for the couple of weeks where we can cut them from our front garden). I read a great post earlier in the week about how to make carnations look like peonies Via Craftberry Bush
And I also spotted some beautiful blush inspiration in this watercolour art Via Pier1
I love the springy mix of green and pink in this beautifully detailed wood curl succulent wreath Via Pier1
I’ve started focusing more on tackling our boys’ bedrooms over the past week, as well, and have been doing a lot of research on shelving and beds and closet systems. I also read this great post about how to sew blackout lining to store bought curtains Via So Much Better with Age
I’m thinking of sewing some new drapes for my youngest son’s bedroom, and maybe even making him a giant beanbag – I found a very simple tutorial Via Martha Stewart, but it definitely lacks detail so if I tackle this project I promise to share a more detailed post about how to do it yourself…
My older son is upgrading to a double bed, and we’re trying to select one for him. I think we are going to go with a vintage sports/dorm style theme in his room, and I love vintage metal beds like this one
But he would like a “more comfy” upholstered headboard, probably in navy blue, like this one
I also spotted some super cute sport shelving Via PB Teen
I love how they look in this PB bedroom, which is pretty similar to the look and feel that my son wants for his room…
I’d also love to figure out a solution for his baseball hat “situation”, and I really like this baseball hat display rack, also Via PB Teen. I’d like to figure out a way to DIY this one…
Wish me luck as I attempt to build two full closets worth of IKEA Pax. Gotta love those little allan wrenches, right?
