Our Boys Bedroom REVEAL! {It is finally here!}

This week I am thrilled to be participating in BOY MOM MADNESS.

It is kind of like March Madness, except instead of being about college students playing basketball, it is about Moms of little boys decorating and DIYing their hearts out. So pretty much, nothing at all related to March Madness, but lots of fun none-the-less.

Each day this week, some amazing bloggers who are also BOY MOMS will be sharing their projects according to a theme.

And today’s theme in BOY MOM MADNESS is Boy’s Bedrooms. So it’s the perfect thing to push me into fiiiinnnalllly getting around to REVEALING our Boys’ bedroom.

Are you as excited as I am?

I love basketball. Oops, I mean decorating.

This post is only about a year overdue.

Would you like to see a quick before shot of how this space started out waaaaaay back when. {This is from before we even moved our youngest son into this room – I talked all about that decision here}.

Can you believe it?? {That wall where the Mario series is hanging is the wall that we planked – just for your reference}.

After we moved a second bed into the space I knew it was time to get crackin’ on creating a bedroom that the boys would both love. We live on a lake, so nautical comes naturally, and the boys love the outdoors and camping…so I kind of thought a nautical/camp/PB Kids type of space would be perfect. On a much lower budget, of course.

I “started” our boys bedroom last January after several months where one boy slept on the floor on a mattress until his Grandpa took pity on him and built him a matching bed. {Between you and I, I don’t think he minded the floor- he thought he was camping}.

My goal was to get their bedroom finished in one hard-busy week while my husband was away. Truth be told, I wanted to install MDF planked walls and I knew the hubs wasn’t keen on it, so I enlisted my Dad to come and help;)  Better to beg forgiveness then ask permission? Ya, something like that.

Aside from the window treatment, bedding, and a few accessories that I picked up on sale, hardly anything in this space was actually bought brand new from a store. Most things are from thrift stores, garage sales, handed-down, or MADE by us (and by Grandpa Bill).

But with a little (okay, a LOT) of sweat equity and patience, I am pretty thrilled with the space we have created for them and I know they love it too.

Today is all about the reveal – pictures, pictures, pictures.

A lot of the boys’ room has been finished for several months.

One BIG project stood in my way from calling it “DONE”. The window treatment.

I desperately wanted to sew a roman blackout blind for this room…. and I tried. I watched multiple YouTube videos. I read a zillion tutorials online. But for some reason it just felt like too much. Too hard.

Have you ever had a DIY-block like that?

Well, anyhow, I finally decided to take the plunge and leave this one to the professionals. So I ordered a custom striped roman blackout blind for their window from Tonic Living. And I couldn’t be more thrilled with it.

    1. Hi Charlotte,
The room is about 9.5’x11.5′ I believe – not including the closet. I did the bulk of the work in one busy week, with planning before and detail work after! I hope that helps:)
